Children's Cultural Center (CCC) provides after-school and weekend activities for Lao children and youth to learn about Lao culture and traditions. Through participation in traditional music, drama, storytelling, singing, and a variety of arts and crafts activities, Lao children learn about their roots and develop skills that encourage healthy lifestyles, good stewardship and cultural preservation. The Children's Cultural Centre caters to children between the ages of 6 and 18 by providing free instruction in Lao arts, crafts, and other cultural activities not taught in the regular school system. Activities provided include traditional dance, music, singing, drawing and painting, Lao culture, storytelling, puppetry, reading, games, and handicrafts.
On the weekend in Luang Prabang, the local CCC sees 400 to 500 children a day. Visitors can also drop in at this location for the regular classical dance, music, and Epock puppet shows performed by a children's troupe. These shows travel to rural villages and convey important social messages to local communities about healthy and responsible lifestyles.
For travelers, weekly shows (Thursday and Saturday evenings, unless it rains) help fund CCC activities, but daytime visits are also possible at specified times. Visitors and volunteers are always welcome!
